Thanks to the use of various materials, M Compound brakes achieve outstanding deceleration values and are extremely stable and highly durable. The Red high-gloss brake calipers with the M logo are the hallmark of this high-performance M specific braking system.
Front design.
At the centre of the front section is the distinctive M kidney grille with double bars in black high-gloss. Impressively narrow light tubes with Adaptive LED headlights appear to taper towards the typical M radiator grille and round off the dynamic appearance. Complementing this impression are the trapezoid air inlets with honeycomb structure that provide additional ventilation for the high-revving M power unit.

M Exterior mirrors.
The aerodynamically optimised M exterior mirrors are a significant part of the sporty and dynamic M design. Attached to the body by a double-bridge designed base, they underscore the beautiful aesthetics of the vehicle and convey a sense of precision engineering down to the last detail. The additional LED indicators are fitted perfectly into a long, narrow groove.
Rear design.
The progressively sculpted rear of the BMW X3 M hints at the potential contained in this vehicle. The flamboyant full LED rear lights in a pronounced 3D look and the vertical reflectors arranged below them add an additional sporty look to the tail. Rounding off this athletic impression is the design of the imposing rear diffuser with striking twin tailpipes in chrome and the integrated M sport exhaust system.
M leather steering wheel.
The M leather steering wheel with shift paddles and contoured thumb rests provides a direct, athletic steering experience and maximum control. The integrated multifunction enables the operation of various multimedia and assistance systems. The red M1/M2 buttons can be used to access two preset M Drive configurations.

M gear selector switch.
The illuminated M gear selector switch features an M specific switch pattern and excellent operability. In manual "S" mode, the driver can shift gears manually using the selector lever or the gearshift paddles; in "D" mode, shifting occurs automatically. The Drivelogic rocker switch makes selection of three M specific shift programmes possible.

BMW M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engines.
The BMW X3 M40i is powered by a three-litre inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology. With an output of 260 kW (354 hp) and a maximum torque of 500 Nm, it has a sporty driving performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. The BMW X3 M40d comes with a 6-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 240 kW (326 hp) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
M Sport suspension
M Sport suspension is notable for a more dynamic suspension with tighter damper settings. It also features a moderately higher spring constant and harder stabilisers. Combined together, they result in an even more direct suspension design, which enables a distinctly sporty driving style.
8-speed Steptronic Sport Transmission.
The 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission offers incredibly sporty gear changes. Whether automatic or manual using the selector lever or gearshift paddles – for comfortable coasting or incredibly dynamic driving. In SPORT mode and with the selector lever in the left-hand S/M position, the gear shifts are configured for the maximum performance.
Variable sport steering.
The variable sport steering with Servotronic creates a direct and agile steering response and ensures that less physical effort is required to turn the wheel. It reacts to the angle of the steering wheel with varying steering ratios. This improves handling when driving more dynamically and reduces the effort needed to steer when parking and turning.
M sport differential.
The M sport differential optimises traction and driving stability when changing lanes or accelerating out of a bend, when taking bends at high speeds or on different road surfaces. Traction is optimised with the help of an electronically operated device that reduces the difference in revolution speed between the rear wheels.
M Sport brake.
The M Sport brake has four-piston fixed calipers at the front and single-piston floating calipers at the rear in Blue metallic (optionally in Red metallic) with the M logo is internally ventilated and features larger brake discs to ensure an outstanding braking performance. Adapted to the vehicle's very high dynamic potential, it also allows an exceptional athletic driving style and excellent braking on wet surfaces.
BMW X3 M40i and X3 M40d specific design elements.
The design of the BMW X3 M40i and BMW X3 M40d conveys pure dynamics and athletic elegance. Creating this effect on the exterior are M-specific design elements such as the M kidney grille with M logo and double slats in black high-gloss, black M exterior mirrors and optional 21-inch gloss-lathed M light alloy wheels – rounded off by prominent tailpipes with free-form trims in Black Chrome ‘Two Teeth’ style.
